Chanel Fall/Winter 2026 Bags: Matthieu Blazy’s Metamorphosis
The Venue: A Dream Under Construction
Returning to the historic Grand Palais, guests including Margot Robbie, Oprah Winfrey, and BLACKPINK’s Jennie were welcomed into an unexpected setting. Beneath the iconic glass dome, the venue had been transformed into a colourful construction site.

Towering cranes in primary shades of red, blue, and yellow hovered above a shimmering holographic runway. According to Matthieu Blazy, the set symbolised the idea of “building a dream” — a metaphor for reshaping the foundations of Chanel while honouring the House’s century-old legacy.
Key Themes: The Caterpillar and the Butterfly
Drawing inspiration from a quote by Gabrielle Chanel, the narrative of the FW26 collection centred on metamorphosis. Chanel once observed: “There is nothing more comfortable than a caterpillar and nothing more made for love than a butterfly. We need dresses that crawl and dresses that fly.”
Blazy explored this contrast throughout the collection.
The “Caterpillar”: Daywear & Utility
The show opened with grounded, practical silhouettes designed for everyday life. Ribbed knit zip-front cardigans, structured tweed blousons, and practical commuter-style bags introduced a wardrobe focused on movement and functionality.
The “Butterfly”: Nocturnal Elegance
As the collection progressed, silhouettes became lighter and more expressive. Weightless silk dresses, iridescent sequins, and feather-trimmed hems created a sense of fluid motion and evening glamour.

5 Standout Chanel Fall/Winter 2026 Bags
For collectors, the Chanel FW26 bags highlight some of the most innovative leatherwork seen from the House in recent seasons. These are the standout pieces from the runway.
The “Ultimate Hybrid” Flap Bag
One of the most discussed designs of the season is the hybrid flap bag. Blazy combines archival Chanel codes through a layered flap construction that references two of the House’s most iconic designs: the Timeless Classic Flap and the 2.55.

Dual Clasps
The bag stacks Chanel’s two most recognisable closures across layered flaps, placing the interlocking CC turn-lock above the classic 2.55 Mademoiselle lock below.
Split Chain Strap
The strap merges two signature Chanel elements — a leather-interwoven chain on one side and a traditional Gourmette chain on the other — subtly referencing the eras of both Coco Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld.
The Return of Suede
Texture plays a key role in the FW26 bag collection. Large, softly structured suede shoulder bags appeared throughout the runway, including a standout look carried by stunning Bhavitha Mandava, emerging as one of Chanel’s latest runway muses. Distinguished by flat diamond stitching rather than traditional padded quilting, the design introduces a relaxed interpretation of Chanel’s signature codes.
Croco-Embossed Leather
Blazy also introduced a striking croco-embossed leather finish, delivering the visual drama of crocodile while remaining true to Chanel’s contemporary material standards. Since 2018, the House has no longer used genuine exotic skins, making embossed leather an elegant way to recreate the texture and depth associated with traditional crocodile bags.
From cylindrical shapes to oversized flap bags, these pieces feature a glossy, high-shine finish that adds depth and dimension to the collection.
The Faux-Fur XL Flap
Reflecting the continued shift toward larger handbags, the runway also featured an oversized flap bag rendered in plush faux fur.
This voluminous design adds a tactile, winter-ready dimension to the classic Chanel silhouette while tapping into the maximalist bag trends of 2026, where bold textures, exaggerated proportions, and statement accessories dominate the season’s handbag landscape. The result is a playful yet striking interpretation of the iconic flap — a piece designed to stand out both on the runway and in everyday styling.
Whimsical Minaudières
Embracing the playful side of Chanel, the FW26 collection also introduced a series of whimsical minaudières. Half-moon clutches and miniature sculptural evening bags suspended from delicate chains echoed the collection’s theme of metamorphosis.
These jewel-like accessories highlight Chanel’s long-standing tradition of imaginative craftsmanship — pieces created as much for collectors as for evening wear.
